Week 4: Preparing For the Production of Background Music

 Hi all!

This week I was able to meet with my media teacher, Mrs. Stoklose in order to receive feedback and ask her any questions regarding the current stages I am in for this proejct.

I heavily emphasized my attention towards the background music, as music is my strong suit and I am very much relying on this element of film to take my project to the next level.

My teacher recommended that I watch the opening scene for Baby Driver (2017) as a form of both education and inspiration. Because I have never watched Baby Driver, I was enticed to see what this film had in store, as I have heard very good things about it but never got around to watching it.

Here is the opening scene that I watched:

Update: I just watched the opening scene. Not once, not twice, but 6 times. This is such a high-quality introduction to a film! And as soon as the scene began, I instantly caught onto why my teacher gave me this scene as a recommendation. The energetic, edgy guitar riffs and vocals that pump into the driver's ear during the whole scene arguably made me feel like him. I could tell that the music is what kept him locked in and aggressive on the streets to succesfully escape the cops. And because I am so emotionally bound to music, I was immersed into the action from the very start and I genuinely felt like I was in the car with him.

Although this genre of film and music are nowhere near my ideas for the project, I still got valuable takeaways from baby driver involving the relationship of the characters and the audience through the music, as well as the importance behind using the music to complement the screenplay.

See you guys soon!
